@Highbridge Recreation Center (2301 Amsterdam Avenue-between W172nd St. & W173rd St.)
March 10, 6:30 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
De Profundis, performed entirely in Spanish by seasoned Spanish actor and director Iker Ortiz de Zarate, is a groundbreaking,
award-winning one man performance of the final letters written by Irish author Oscar Wilde to his absent lover Lord Alfred Douglas during Wilde’s imprisonment for the crime of homosexuality.
This passionate, heartbreaking, and eerily still relevant prose was completely suppressed by the Victorian government of Great Britain for decades
and was not published in its entirety until some seventy years later.
The Basque Company of Dance Theatre is on a mission to bring these immeasurably important letters to Spanish-speaking audiences across the globe.

Amy Chua Book Signing : Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother
@ Barnes and Noble (150 East 86th Stree - between Lexington Ave. & 3rd Ave.)
March 10, 7:30 p.m.
About the Book All decent parents want to do what's best for their children. What Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother reveals is that the Chinese just have a totally different idea of how to do that.
Western parents try to respect their children's individuality, encouraging them to pursue their true passions and providing a nurturing environment.
The Chinese believe that the best way to protect your children is by preparing them for the future and arming them with skills, strong work habits, and inner confidence.
Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother chronicles Chua's iron-willed decision to raise her daughters, Sophia and Lulu, her way-the Chinese way-and the remarkable results her choice inspires.

Japan Fashion Now
Japan Fashion Now is the first exhibition to explore how Japanese fashion has evolved in recent years.

Japan Fashion Now
@ The Museum at FIT (Seventh Avenue at 27 Street)
March 2 - April 2
Japanese fashion today embraces not only the cerebral, avant-garde looks associated with the first wave of Japanese design in the 1980s, but also a range of subcultural and youth-oriented styles.
In addition, Japanese fashion often has a strong component of realism and an obsessive interest in perfecting classic styles.
Contemporary Japanese fashion is globally significant precisely because it mixes elements of realism with both the avant-garde and pop cultural elements,
especially those associated with electronic media, such as manga (comics), anime (animated cartoons), and video games.

Lynda Benglis Sculpture
Benglis’s sculptures suggest a remarkable range of influences, geological flows, and ceremonial totems.
They rely on both exposing process and crafting feats of illusion to create sumptuous forms.

Lynda Benglis
@ New Museum (between Staton St. & Rivington St.)
February 22 - June 19
The exhibition, the artist’s first retrospective in New York , spans the range of Benglis’s career and her recent experiments with plastics, cast glass, paper, and gold leaf.
Alongside her sculptural output, Benglis created a radical body of work in video, photography, and media interventions that explore notions of power, gender relations, and role-playing.
These works function in tandem with her sculpture to offer a pointed critique of sculptural machisimo and suggest a fluid awareness of gender and artistic identity.
They also contribute to an understanding of the artist’s objects as simultaneously temporal and physically present, intuitive and psychologically charged.

: the redefinition of individual identity in the modern age. Major works by fine artists Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka, and Egon Schiele will be on view,
as well as furniture by architects Otto Wagner and Adolf Loos, and decorative artists Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser.

Swan Lake Ballet
Swan Lake, the last of the great 19th-century Russian ballets, is a work of emotional intensity, inventive choreography
and glorious music, a lyrical and moving musical/psychological dance drama.

NYC Ballet: Swan Lake
@ David H. Koch Theater (Columbus Avenue & 63rd Street)
February 22, 7:30 p.m. | February 26, 2 p.m.
Originally designed by Cecil Beaton for the stage of the City Center of Music and Drama,
and later reconceived by Rouben Ter-Arutunian for the larger stage of the New York Sate Theater in 1964,
Balanchine's one-act version is based on Ivanov's choreography for Act II and uses music from both Acts II and IV (the lakeside acts)
as well as a duet from Tschaikovsky's opera Ondine. In 1986, the production was entirely redesigned to dress the swan corps in black.
The idea of black swans apparently started with Balanchine, who purchased 400 yards of black tarlatan before he died.
The scenery, by Alain Vaes, is now an icy landscape instead of the traditional Gothic lakeside.

SCANDAL
The story of financial scandal in America begins in 1792.
Since then scandals have surfaced throughout American history, inciting outrage and often spurring reforms to ensure that similar events never recur.

SCANDAL!: Financial Crime
@ 48 Wall Street (Between William St. and Hanover St.)
February 9, 2011 - April 29, 2011 | Tuesday - Saturday, 10 am - 4 pm
In recent years, accounting scandals, investor fraud and failures of corporate governance and risk management have been thrust into the spotlight.
Accounting scandals that emerged in the early 2000s led to the passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which increased regulation, oversight and accountability in corporate accounting practices.
The failure of large corporate entities ranging from banks to Wall Street investment houses and government-sponsored mortgage agencies has brought questions of risk management and
corporate governance to the forefront, posing us with new challenges and questions of how to balance private enterprise with fair and effective oversight.
From betrayals of the public trust by government officials to betrayals of investors by Ponzi artists, and from corporate accounting fraud to egregious failures of risk management in more recent years,
“Scandal!” explores the history of these episodes in American history, scrutinizing the people involved and the damage they caused.

Daily from 5:30 AM - 11:30 PM

There may be no holiday highlight quite like The Tree at Rockefeller Center.
Giant in stature and sentiment, the Tree has been a true crowd-delighter for over 75 years. The annual
Tree Lighting Ceremony attracts star-studded names and floods of eager faces, but you can admire those brilliant
lights all season long. Best of all, the Tree is now greener than ever and celebrates the holidays in true eco-friendly
spirit. This year's tree was decorated with 30,000 energy-efficient LED lights on five miles of wire, topped with a
750-pound star made of 25,000 Swarovski crystals.
